Man: What are you doing?
Boy: I am trying to make a contribution to the country.
Man: A contribution?
Boy: Yes, uncle. At least this is what I can do now. … To learn to respect this country. When I am grown up, I will make a contribution by paying tax. Taxes are important, uncle. Building cities with their facilities, transportation, health, education, everything is paid for through taxes, uncle. So, when one day I am successful, and I don’t pay taxes, what will the world say?
Man: When you are successful, yes. … Okay.

Lelaki: Lagi ngapain, deh?
Cowok: Saya mencoba berkontribusi untuk negara, Om
Lelaki: Kontribusi?
Cowok: Iya, Om. Setidaknya itu yang bisa saya lakukan sekarang. …
… Ya sudahlah.

Penerimaan Pajak 2017 Baru 89,7 Persen dari Target APBN

  1. JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Direktorat Jenderal Pajak ( DJP) Kementerian Keuangan menyebut total keseluruhan penerimaan pajak tahun 2017 mencapai Rp 1.151 triliun.

Pemahaman

Tata Bahasa: Per-…-an vs Ke-…-an Nouns

Both Per-…-an and Ke-…-an are noun forming circumfixes.

The main function of per-…-an is to create nouns from ber- verbs:

bertumbuh, to gwow >> pertumbuhan, growth
berhitung, to calculate >> perhitungan, calculation
bermain, to play >> permainan, a play, game
bertanya, to ask >> pertanyaan, a question
bercakap, to converse >> percakapan, a conversation

The main function of ke-…-an is to create abstract nouns (an abstract noun is a noun that refers to something that cannot be seen, touched, or physically felt). Ke-…-an nouns are based on adjectives:

patuh, obedient, compliant >> kepatuhan, obedience, compliance
seluruh, all, entire >> keseluruhan, entirety, overall
tinggi, high >> ketinggian, altitude
baik, good >> kebaikan, goodness, kindness
bebas, free >> kebebasan, freedom
bersih, clean >> kebersihan, cleanliness
cantik, beautiful kecantikan, beauty
sehat, healthy >> kesehatan, health
sulit, difficult >> kesulitan, difficulty

Some per-…-an nouns mean both ‘affairs to do with [base]’ and ‘place where a large number of [base] are found/collection of [base]’.

perpajakan, taxation, tax affairs
perikanan fishery affairs; fishery
perkebunan horticulture; plantation
perkotaan, urban affairs; urban area
persawahan rice cultivation; cluster of rice fields
peternakan animal husbandry; animal farm
pertokoan shopping matters; shopping area

Just like abstract ke-…-an nouns, many of these noun-derived forms also function attributively with other nouns. Although they literally mean ‘having to do with [base]’, they are typically translated using the same word as the base noun. Here are some examples of these forms used as modifiers:

petugas perpajakan, tax inspector
sektor perpajakan, taxation sector
kebijakan perpajakan, taxation policy
sengketa perburuhan, labour dispute
masalah perekonomian, economic matter
dunia perfilman movie world
bidang perhotelan, hotel sector
daerah perindustrian, industrial district

Many ke-…-an nouns have a similar function. They also mean ‘having to do with [base]:

kedokteran, medical, having to do with doctors
kehutanan, forestry, having to do with forests
kepolisian, having to do with police
keuangan, finance, finances

They also frequently modify another noun:

kementerian keuangan, ministry/department of finance, treasury
departemen keuangan, department of finance, treasury
fakultas kedokteran, faculty/college of medicine
menteri kehutanan, minister of  forestry
akademi kepolisian, police academy
soal keuangan, financial matters
