In general, I fully agree with the perspective presented in the video below, in which a professor of second language acquisition explains effective strategies for learning a foreign language as an adult.
At the core of successful learning are well-designed texts, supported by high-quality audio recordings and clear visual context. For our intermediate and advanced level Indonesian language courses, we also include a wide range of authentic Indonesian videos to expose learners to real-life language use.
At the same time, we believe that variety is essential. Every learner is different, and no single method works equally well for everyone. Some students enjoy puzzles such as crosswords or word searches, while others find them frustrating or unhelpful. Both reactions are perfectly valid. Similarly, dictation exercises—once considered somewhat outdated—have regained importance in modern language teaching because they effectively connect listening, writing, and grammatical awareness.
For this reason, we offer a broad spectrum of exercise types. You are not expected to complete every single one. Feel free to focus on what works best for you. If a particular type of exercise does not suit your learning style, simply skip it and move on to something more beneficial.
