For vocabulary learning «Indonesian Online» uses smart vocabulary cards that help you memorise new words. Our e-flashcards can be used with the open-source software Anki. Anki flashcards are available for all of our Indonesian language courses.
The Anki flashcards are considered “smart” because they know which vocabulary items you have memorised and which one you still need to learn. They employ the spaced repetition study principle – a learning technique that incorporates increasing intervals of time between subsequent review of previously learned material; this exploits the psychological spacing effect:
This is how spaced repetition works: the Anki software shows you the front side of a flashcard bearing a word in Indonesian. You then have to figure out what the meaning of that word is. If you get it right Anki will ask you again in another two weeks, but if it wasn’t so easy, it will show you the same flashcard in a week, and if it was really hard, Anki will ask again the following day. In this way, you don’t have to spend time going over material you already learned. Software like the free and open-source Anki bring ease, sophistication, and much more power into the process of learning any language.
Anki is a lot more efficient than manual flashcards, you can either greatly decrease your time spent studying, or greatly increase the amount you learn.
Anki is available for all major operating systems for computers as well as for most portable devices.
