Hello,
We have recently added several AI speaking exercises to TIW Lessons 6, 15, 31, 48, and 59. We would like to invite you to try them out and share your feedback with us.
At this stage, the exercises have not worked entirely as expected. ChatGPT does not consistently speak aloud, while Gemini does produce audio but often fails to recognize Indonesian input and instead assumes that users are speaking English. We have already added Indonesian as a preferred language in both System Preferences and keyboard settings, but the issue persists.
That said, ChatGPT remains a useful tool: although it does not always speak, it listens well to spoken responses and provides helpful corrections.
We also found out that the AI exercises typically run better on a smart phone than on a dektop computer.
We would greatly appreciate it if you could test these AI generated speaking exercises and let us know your experience. If you have any suggestions, please contact us via WhatsApp at +1 808-365-7043 or +62 811-8000-2199, or by email at [email protected].
Terima kasih,
Hi, I just used Chat GPT with the job interview scenario you have written in Lesson 75 of the Indonesian Way. It worked pretty well!!
The Chat GPT spoke back to me the whole way and was able to make small adjustments when I changed my answers a little bit from the script. It didn’t correct my Indonesian.
I then tried it again but applying for a job as a secretary. It wasn’t so great at this, because I made too many changes.
That’s great—thank you! Many people use AI as a language-learning tool, but creating meaningful exercises requires carefully instructing the AI on what to do and what to avoid. That kind of guidance can only be provided by an experienced language teacher. Unfortunately, many language teachers are not particularly tech-savvy, making it difficult for them to take full advantage of AI’s potential.
