The Indonesian Way (TIW) M1, Lessons 1 – 14 as a method, supplemented my Indonesian Language studies at Charles Darwin University. With no prior knowledge of this language this method helped me attain competency towards beginner level reading and writing competencies over the 14 week period of Semester 1 2025. These studies over the period were also supported by Thomas Oey’s ‘Everyday Indonesian.’ and some use of Duolingo. These studies in Indonesian are part of my intent to enable my practice as an ESL Teacher in the future in Indonesia and I have appreciated the alignment with Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages and Dr Jessica Fox’s analysis of TIW as a method.
However, I did buy the TIW Teacher Book but never received “copy”, but I think I have worked out now towards the end of M1 these resources are online only?
I did not fully exploit the use of the downloadable PDF files of the textbook in M1, Lesson 1 -15, that feature in Dr Fox’s review. This aspect could be an improvement with improved communication via email potentially. I am confident the use of these files will aid study into M2 & M3, to Lesson 48. The TIW- Anki flash card system is proving useful. After reviewing Lesson 7-14, I think the Lesson 15 Quiz will be a useful test of progress going into M2, then M3, and towards anticipated CEFR A1 proficiency in Indonesian at the end of M3.
